Hanamura Arcade posters (Updated 2/7)

In the Hanamura arcade there are several posters featuring human and robotic characters. Some of these posters can be found on other maps as well. They have been widely theorized to be teasers for a new hero, or several heroes.

2/7 Update:

  • Changed post title/section titles
  • Added another translation
  • Added untranslated version of Music! poster from a promotional picture for Junkrat & Roadhog
  • Added 01.01.XX date speculation to Notes and Speculation section

The poster shows a light-skinned woman reclining in some sort of machinery. She has long dark hair and a visor. She is raising her right hand to supposedly tap a selection on a screen. The top has text reading Super in English followed by Machine in Japanese. The full top text reads Super Machine 2. In the bottom left is the text 01.01.XX.
Translation: Super Machine 2

The poster shows a light-skinned woman in the bottom left foreground. She has long white hair and a visor. Behind her is a humanoid mech/robot. The background is a nondescript red scene. The text on the bottom reads Robot!! in Japanese.
Translation: Robot!!

Notes and Speculation

  • The fifth poster listed, which can also be seen in the Temple of Anubis, is popularly nicknamed Hawk for their supposed enhanced vision.
  • It is a common theory that the posters depict the same person, but it can be argued that there are at least two women, one with dark hair and one with white hair. There are also four distinct mech/robotic figures.
  • Another theory is that these women and possible mechs are MEKA pilots like D.Va. To this theory, Michael Chu had this to say on Twitter: "Hadn't heard that one before!"
  • The date 01.01.XX on two of the posters has been speculated to be a teaser for something to happen on January 1. As the map is as old as the beta, two January 1's have passed with nothing happening so far.
  • Another version of the Music! poster can be seen in a promotional image of Junkrat and Roadhog stealing from the arcade.

  1. The translationsmake it seem like she uses some kind of cyber optic mech-tech, and that the name for The Visor Lady, film, or mech is Hunter X. "Super Machine 2", sure sounds like a film sequel.

It is also possible that Hunter X is hero 26. Grandmaster Jeff said the new hero would be a ways off after Doomfist's breakout, and the date at the bottom of the poster is 01.01.20XX. So a good guess would be 01.01.2018.

The OW team has delivered some great heroes so far this year this year (of course more would be better!). :P What is more important however is that they take their sweet time and keep up the rock solid drip fed content.

This might not be the case considering one of the posters of Hunter X reads "20XX.01.01 ON SALE". It is unlikely that 26 would be pay to play, because the OW community was told that the heroes would all be FTP. Ruling that out we have opened the portal, so to speak. It could mean additional DLC, a campaign, an animated short, some wild new game mode, or some other kind of expansion.

It would be awesome if she was that big spindly legged hero visible in some of the early concept art. Whoever she is, she most certainly pilots a gigantic mech with an opening head through which she may exit.
